In 1847, Louis-François Cartier takes over the shop of his master, Adolphe Picard, located at 29 rue Montorgueil in Paris. Jewelry is growing, too, in 1853, the customer is sorted on the pane. After a few years of unrest, Paris becomes animated, and the splendour of the Second Empire promotes the development of trade. In 1859, Louis-François Cartier prosperous cheerfully and opened a new shop at 9 bd of the Italians. In 1899, Alfred Cartier, son of the founder, throws his sights on peace Street 13 to open a new jewelry in the heart of the luxurious neighborhood of Paris. This street is in fact part of the most expensive streets of Paris, a street in which an elegant woman can find everything she dreams to buy. Other jewellers will follow the example of Louis-François Cartier and will settle peace, not far from the Place Vendome Street, making this part of the city, the jewellers deluxe, watchmakers, of the luxury leather (Louis Vuitton), as well as accessories upmarket district (Gucci). Alfred Cartier entrusted the direction of the Cartier House to his three sons, Louis, Pierre and Jacques.
Peter and James go conquer the world and settled in London and New York, while Louis ensures the development of the Parisian fashion house. Great innovator, Louis Cartier brings new ideas while keeping an eye on the great classics: some Cartier rings, some Cartier necklaces, and several models of Cartier bracelets offer a new innovative concept combining Platinum and diamonds and thus a precious metal Platinum. Very quickly, the Cartier House decided to open a branch in London.
Pierre Cartier moved in the British capital in order to meet the demand of the English aristocracy. Joined by his brother Jacques, they opened in 1902 a new point of sale of jewelry Cartier at 4 the New Burlington Street. Cartier became the most prestigious jeweler in the world. The Prince of Wales, future Edouard VII, proclaims Cartier ‘Jeweller of Kings for the King of Jewellers’. In 1904, Alberto Santos-Dumont, an old friend of Louis Cartier, asked him to repair his watch. The jeweller him made a prototype of a wrist watch to read the time while keeping your hands on the levers: Cartier watches are born. At the crossing in the 20th century, Louis-François Cartier is moving towards a more abstract style and more geometric shapes, inspired by the architecture. Colors explode with the influence of Fauvism, the pins of Sapphire and diamonds are decorated with Gothic motifs or art deco. In 1909, the London shop moved to settle on the New Bond Street and in 1912, Cartier revolutionizes the world of jewellery by launching its famous mysterious clocks…
